10 tips for your Bali trip – part 2
- You need a visa to get into Bali
But you don’t have to buy it beforehand. You can buy it at the airport. - Don’t drink ice cubes that aren’t made in a fabric!
To check if the ice cube is homemade or made in a fabric look for a round hole in the ice cube. If there’s a hole in the ice cube, they are safe to drink. - Avoid booking open hotel rooms
If you don’t like geckos and mosquitoes an open hotel room is not for you! - There’s a of insects and reptiles on Bali
BUT it was not as bad as I had expected! We saw a lot of geckos, ants and mosquitoes, but that was also it! I had feared it a bit, but it was not too bad. - They (almost always) put a service tax on top of the price
at hotels, restaurants and spa treatments. The service tax is 10-15%.
- The people in Bali are so nice!
Yes, they are a bit eager in the shops and they won’t always take no for an answer, BUT besides that they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. We felt at home on the hotels and we almost felt as part of a family. - Download Grab and Gojek BEFORE going to Bali
We had so much trouble downloading when we in Bali and we actually only managed to get Grab to work. They use Grab a lot in Ubud and Gojek in Canggu, so it’s a good idea to download both! - Book a driver on Grab or Gojek for the day and use the driver as a guide
Many of the drivers are also guide and can help get around, tell about the sights and give reccomendations. And it’s a lot cheaper than booking a trip on getyoutguide for instance. AND all the drivers we met were also really good at taking photos. They will even climb in trees or sit on a little rock in the water flow to get the perfect shot! Even if you don’t ask for it. - There’s not a lot of candy and sweet treats on Bali
They primarily have chips and crackers in the supermarkets. You can find a bit of chocolate and gummies, but the selection is VERY SMALL, so if you need your daily does of chocolate, I suggest you bring your own - Go snorkel in Bali
They have turtles, rays, colorful fish and a beautiful coral reef. It’s an amazing experience!
